Gingerbread Men Recipe (24-30 cookies)
Ingredients
- 3 cups all plain flour
- 1 tablesppoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- In a medium bowl mix all the dry ingredients (flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves, salt) – set aside
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and brown suger together
- Add the egg and mix until combines
- Add the molasses and vanilla until smooth
- Add the dry ingredients
- Mix until a soft dough forms (should be slightly sticky)
- Divide the dough in half and flatten
- Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour
- Preheat the oven to 175 degrees
- Lightly flour your surface and rolling pin
- Roll the dough until about 1/4 inches thick
- Cut the dough using a gingerbread cutter
- Place gingerbread men on parchment paper
- Bake for 8-10 minutes
- Allow cooks to cool and transfer to cooling rack
- Now you can decorate with icing and sweets
